Well it helps if a driver stops at a stop sign.
that is true. but you can't control what other people do.

No you can't, but if the stupid kid riding the motorcycle is going to run a red light, they are going to pay the consequences.
again I agree. however the damage sustained from being on a bike and getting into an accident is often far messier. like splattered brain and skulls fragments , mangled body messy.

Thats what helmets are for.

My uncle, while doing his residency saw a victim of a motorcycle crash. He said the helmet was the only thing that held the top of his skull and his brain in.  Helmets are fantastic but they arent 100% protective.

Also helmets do not protect against broken necks.

No. They can make that decision as an adult but at 16-17 itís absolutely out of the question. My husband has one and I hate it. Heís a great rider but itís not him I have to worry about, itís everyone else.
Iíve also witnessed 2 men on their bikes slam into the side of a car that turned in front of them while they were doing about 45mph. They looked like rag dolls flying through the air. I will never get that image or sound out of my head. The one guy was in terrible condition, fighting us to get his helmet off because he was starting to choke on his teeth and blood. The other guy laid face down begging for us to call his wife. So no, it would never happen, at least not living where we live.

During the summer we see quite a few motorcycle accidents. Most are minor and not a big deal but there are those few that we stabilize and fly to the nearest trauma center where they may or may not make it. Those helmets make the difference between a helicopter ride or a ride down the elevator to the morgue.

My children are taught from a young age that motorcycles are called donor-cycles. We call them death vehicles.

I wouldn't allow a kid that young to own a motorcycle. Doing motocross is a different thing though. But as general transportation, yeah no. They can wait until 18.
