My partner's sister is a smoker (as we all are in our combined families), and works as a customer service representative at a bank. She takes her hourly smoke breaks, but, she works through lunch. All agree that it's a fair trade off.

I dont know anywhere - that people are allowed to smoke indoors... as for extra smoke breaks I doubt its company policy to allow them Even o Im not worried about what others get. I worry about my job, my performance and my needs.  My career isn't high school. I dont spend all day pouting about not having what others have.

Where do you live that people can still smoke inside in public places?  Your whole "woman and her baby at the table next to you" example makes no sense because I don't know of anywhere that could happen.

I've never worried about the extra breaks that smokers may take.  We all do extra stuff we probably aren't supposed to while at work - such as responding to posts like this.

I complained about the additional breaks smokers were given at work so I started taking a smoke break without the cigarette.  It was the perfect solution.

Allergic to cigarette smoke?  really?  How exactly does your body/mind react when you smell cigarette smoke?  Is it a different reaction when you smell fireplace smoke?  What about a campfire?  How would you react to forest fire smoke?
my son and I have bad reactions to cigarette smoke. it kicks up our asthma. fireplace smoke doesn't do it. I wouldn't know about forrest fire.

When I smoked I never got extra smoke breaks just because I smoked... Also I smoked outside and away from everyone when I did smoke so I wasnít exposing anyone else to my smoke. Iím pretty sure the air you breathe everyday was far more of a threat to you than my sneaking a smoke in private...

A majority of places just outright ban smoking in public places now.  Even backward Indiana does this.  Even if you go outside to smoke the smokers still stink of cig smoke.  Their clothes, their hair, their cars-all stink.  Not to mention you are risking your life which is also really stupid.  Cancer is a horrible way to die.  Why not at least TRY to quit?  And it certainly should not be an excuse to get extra breaks though I've never heard of that.

I did not know some places still did smoke breaks.

I do agree there are obnoxious smokers. My apartment has a community pool. I despise when a few of the moms who take their kids swimming decide that is the time to smoke. Like seriously, heffer? You cant wait till you are else where.

The pool isn't huge and the seating area is actually relatively close to the pool so everyone has to deal with it.

Years ago I worked in an office as HR assistant, the AP, AR, Shipping and Receptionist all smoked. So what happened every day? I'd have to relieve the receptionist so she could go on a smoke break, lunch break and her 15 min breaks. My boss got tired of me being up there and told me no more relieving her for smoke breaks, the others could. Well the others' boss got wind of this and yelled at  me. She was senior to my boss. So my boss had to renig, but of course it was my fault. I stayed until I found something else. Current job? I work, I take a break, I do what needs to be done. I don't relieve anyone for breaks nor do I have to supervise anyone. Love my job.

I don't know anywhere around here that grants extra breaks for those who smoke. You get your allotted breaks and you either smoke during it or wait until the next guaranteed break.

Here in my area there is no indoor smoking allowed. No bars, no restaurants, nada. Outdoors then it's a different set of rules.  You need to be 300-500ft away from front entrances to smoke. Bars here send you out into their parking lot, or they will have a designated patio set up for people who smoke.

Iím a smoker and when I worked I never got extra breaks or time. I donít know a single smoker her does. Thatís not a smoker problem if they do, thatís a management problem.

Are there rude smokers, sure, but in my experience most are actually try to be pretty considerate of those around them. I can tell you that I am the person way in the back, away from people but still able to keep an eye on my kids, and people still walk by and grumble. Itís clear Iím smoking, itís clear I have moved away and theyíre gonna grumble? The pendulum moves both way.

Now I don't have anything against smokers. My husband is a smoker. But even he agrees that smokers shouldn't get special privileges just because they smoke. Such as have extra breaks for smoke breaks. What about those who don't smoke? Why can't they have extra breaks too? Nope non smokers don't get extra breaks because we don't smoke. So we dont need that extra break that smokers get.

Or how about us that are forced to be exposed the second hand smoke from being out in public or in the workforce? Why should our health be compromised just because of your bad choices.

Lastly I just want to add I am highly allergic to ciggerette smoke. But my husband is considerate and will only smoke on the deck of our house so myself and our kids arent exposed to second hand smoke.

It is everyone's god given right to smoke if they want to but when others are around it is not just you the smoke is affecting. It is everyone around you. That pregnant woman and her unborn baby sitting in the table right next to you is breathing in your second hand smoke. So are those kids with their parents and that elderly couple that just walked in. It affects everyone.
