Six Foods For A Great Smile
« on: May 18, 2018, 11:49:20 pm »
We donít know about you, but a great smile always catches our eyes. It doesn't matter if the person is across the table or across the room - seeing a great smile helps to make the day more enjoyable.
The first step to take to ensure a great smile is to follow the simple one - two - one strategy. The first one is to floss once a day, the two is to brush twice a day, and the final one is to rinse your mouth thoroughly with mouthwash once a day. By following the one - two - one strategy, youíre helping rid your mouth from sugars and food that may eventually cause bad breath, gum disease or cavities. In addition to following this method daily, there are six foods that can help to protect and even strengthen your teeth and mouth.
Green Tea
Did you know green tea naturally contains naturally occurring compounds called catechins? These unique compounds help to fight inflammation and bacterial infections. In fact, one Japanese study concluded that both men and women who drink at least one cup of tea daily experience less tooth loss later in life. Enjoying a cup of tea helps to reduce negative bacteria growth and fights bad breath.
Oranges and Strawberries
These simple everyday fruits deliver condition-specific health benefits called FruitCeuticals. Fruits packed with vitamin C like oranges and strawberries help with oral health. Vitamin C is essential for the production of collagen. This is a vital protein that helps to maintain strong gums, which are very important for the health of your mouth. A half cup of fresh strawberries provides over 65 percent of the DRV (daily recommended value) of vitamin C. If you canít find fresh strawberries at your local farmers' market, consider enjoying frozen ones from your local grocery store.
Sugarless Gum
Chewing gum isnít recommended during a job interview or while talking on the phone, but itís great to keep your teeth healthy. The reason is that chewing gum helps to keep the saliva flowing so your mouth is better able to wash away harmful bacteria.
Blackberries are an excellent source of calcium, which helps to protect your teeth against periodontal gum disease. One of the best ways to enjoy blackberries is to toss a few into your morning oatmeal or breakfast smoothie. Of course, another excellent source of calcium is low-fat or 2 percent milk.
Raw, Crunchy Fruits and Vegetables
Snacking on crunchy fruits and veggies helps to keep your teeth clean. Foods like apples, carrots, celery, and bell peppers will help to reduce the ability of food particles and harmful bacteria to adhere to your teeth, thus reducing the potential for plaque build up and cavities.
Cranberries, Cherries, Blueberries and Raspberries
Look for brightly colored fruits and vegetables. The brighter colors indicate the presence of anthocyanins. Anthocyanins are powerful compounds that help to reduce inflammation in the body and help fight the ability for pathogens to adhere to your teeth. Anthocyanins are also responsible for turning the green leaves of summer into the fiery reds, oranges and yellow enjoyed during the fall months.
