I had my first and only child at age 47. He was very unexpected but very welcome. He just turned 1 year old. I am a teacher and used all my sick leave right after he was born. By then it was summer break. I decided to take a year off. My principal called last week and wanted to know if I was coming back next year. I told her I would call her back by the end of the week. I decided I am going back. My father had offered to watch DS for $25 a week. That is much cheaper than daycare but DH and I are concerned about socialization and skills DS would learn. This is a very had decision and we are struggling on what to do.

I'm assuming your dad can drive? Put him in preschool. DS went to a preschool that had a one day class for 2 year olds.

If you trust that your dad is up for it, I would take him up on his offer for now and worry about socialization and such later when he is old enough to tell you if there is shady stuff going on.

I'd let your dad watch him. Your dad can always  take him to parks or whatever.

Honestly I stayed home with mine until kindergarten and then went back.  Socialization occurred through play groups and then preschool 3 half days a week.  If you can stay home that would be my recommendation...
